Who is eligible to become a member of Alpha Xi Zeta?
An undergraduate woman enrolled full time with 12 credits or more at Michigan Technological University, with at least a 3.0 GPA for incoming freshman or 2.25 for first year, second semester student or older. We also hope that the PNM will desire to become a loyal sister of our sisterhood.
What are Rush or Recruitment Events?
It's when Potential New Members meet the sisters at organized parties/activities. It allows sisters to get to know the PNM before choosing to ask her to join the sorority and allows the PNM to get to know the sisters of Alpha Xi Zeta on a personal level as well as explore what Alpha Xi Zeta has to offer her individually.
How much time is involved with becoming a sister?
The New Member period is approximately 10 weeks long but varies by pledge class, and requires attendance at a weekly new member meeting (set at a time that all new members have available), biweekly chapter meetings held on Mondays at 6pm, and additional chapter events.
Is Alpha Xi Zeta involved in any philanthropy events?
Yes, we annually participate Relay for Life, Adopt-A-Highway, Make A Difference Day, our Paper Drive, Lambda Chi Alpha's Food Drive, etc. Alpha Xi Zeta's National Philanthropy is the American Cancer Society and Local Philanthropy is the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home for Women; our sisters enjoy contributing to the community, locally and nationally.
Are there leadership opportunities as a sister of Alpha Xi Zeta?
Yes, because we are a smaller organization most of the sisters will have a leadership position as an active member. Choosing which position you would like to take on is entirely up to you, you will never be forced to take a leadership position but are strongly encouraged to!
How can I be sure that my grades won't slip in becoming a sister of Alpha Xi Zeta?
The sisters of Alpha Xi Zeta understand that individual academic performance is the number one priority. We have a scholarship chair that can help coordinate assistance for any sister that needs academic help. In addition, our sisters often study together and are willing to help any sister in need.
Does Alpha Xi Zeta have a sorority house at MTU?
Yes, 8-10 sisters live in the house each year and each have their own room. The sisters are not required to live in the house but choose to because it's a great experience and strengthens the bonds between sisters. The house is within walking distance to campus, which is nice once winter rolls around.
What are the current financial requirements to become a sister?
The new member dues are $145 due by the 3rd week of pledging, and payment plans are available for financial assistance.
